Article Type

The journal considers the following types of manuscripts for publication: research article (original study), review (analytical) article, book or exhibition catalogue review, and scholarly report. The manuscript type must be indicated by the author in the covering letter at the time of submission and in the header of the manuscript immediately before the title. Correct designation of the publication type is mandatory for indexing in academic databases and is a requirement of GOST R 7.0.7-2021.

Manuscript Preparation

Original scholarly articles should be between 12,000 and 25,000 characters including spaces, including footnotes and the list of references. Book reviews should be approximately 1,000 words.

Authors must follow these guidelines strictly; manuscripts that do not conform to the requirements will be returned without review.

Manuscripts must be prepared in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx format), set in Times New Roman, 14 pt, with 1.5 line spacing.

Each manuscript must include: a title; an abstract of no fewer than 280 words (citations must not be included in the abstract); 5 to 8 keywords relevant to the topic and content of the paper; and a complete list of references. An accurate selection of keywords ensures correct indexing of the article in reference periodicals and databases.

The manuscript must also include: the authors’ full names; institutional affiliation; and city and country.

Recommended Article Structure

Authors are encouraged to follow the logical structure outlined below. The Introduction should present the research problem, justify its relevance, provide a brief review of existing scholarship, and clearly formulate the aim or research question. The Main body should describe the methodology and source base, present the course of the investigation, analyse the material, and argue the author’s position. The Conclusion should summarise the findings and, where appropriate, outline prospects for further research. The editorial board does not require mechanical reproduction of the subheadings “Introduction”, “Main body”, and “Conclusion” — the structure may be realised through thematic sections following a logical sequence.

Author Information and ORCID

The manuscript must include the following information for each author: full name (surname, first name, and patronymic where applicable); academic degree and title (if any); position; full name of the employing institution; institutional address (city, country); and contact e-mail address.

An ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) identifier is mandatory for all authors. Authors who do not have an ORCID must register at https://orcid.org and obtain an identifier before submitting their manuscript. The ORCID identifier should be placed immediately after the author’s name in the format: ORCID: 0000-0000-0000-0000. Where there are multiple authors, ORCID information must be provided for each.

Where there are multiple authors, the editorial board recommends specifying each author’s contribution to the research (conceptualisation, data collection, analysis, writing and editing, etc.).

Illustrations

Photographs, drawings, and other illustrative materials must be submitted as separate files — embedding images within the manuscript document is not permitted. All visual materials must be of high quality and technically prepared so as not to require additional processing: acceptable formats are .jpg or .tiff, at a resolution of 300 dpi or higher.

Authors must obtain permission from the copyright holder(s) for any previously published images and must include evidence of such permission when submitting the manuscript. Each illustration must be clearly numbered (e.g. Fig. 1, Fig. 2) and referenced at the appropriate point in the main text. Please do not supply files that are low in resolution or optimised for screen use (e.g. GIF, BMP, PICT, WPG formats), as these typically have an insufficient number of pixels and a limited colour range.

Captions for illustrations should be provided in the language of the article and duplicated in English. Captions are presented as a separate block at the end of the manuscript (after the list of references), indicating the illustration number and source (author, title of the work, year, medium, dimensions, collection, etc.). Example: “Fig. 1. Ivan Ivanov. Title of the Work. 2005. Oil on canvas. 80 × 60 cm. Artist’s collection.”

Footnotes and References

For the Russian-language version of the article, the reference list must be formatted in accordance with GOST R 7.0.5-2008 (“Bibliographic Reference”). In-text citations are given in square brackets with the source number and, where necessary, page numbers: [1, p. 45]. The reference list (section “Литература”) is placed at the end of the article and includes only works cited in the text; it is arranged in alphabetical order by authors’ surnames (Cyrillic sources first, followed by Latin-script sources). Self-citation must be justified and should not exceed 20% of the total number of sources. Substantive footnotes are permitted and placed at the bottom of the relevant page.

For the English-language version of the article, the Harvard referencing system must be used. In-text citations are given in parentheses with the author’s surname and year: (Ivanov, 2010: 45). The English-language reference list (References) is arranged in alphabetical order and is, as a rule, a transliterated and translated version of the main list.

Manuscripts and all accompanying materials should be submitted by e-mail to: dom.text@gmail.com

Originality Requirements

The editorial board checks all submitted manuscripts for originality using specialised software. The originality level must be no lower than 80%. Manuscripts with an originality level below this threshold will be returned to authors without review. The editorial board reminds authors that self-plagiarism — reproducing one’s own previously published texts without proper references — is treated as a violation of publication ethics on a par with plagiarism. Authors bear full responsibility for the originality of submitted materials.

Manuscript Review Procedure

The manuscript review process comprises several successive stages.

Registration and preliminary review. Upon receipt, the manuscript is registered by the editorial office. Within 5 working days, the author receives notification of registration. During the preliminary review, the editor assesses the manuscript’s relevance to the journal’s scope, compliance with formatting requirements, and originality level. Manuscripts that do not meet the formal requirements are returned to authors for revision.

Double-blind peer review. Manuscripts that pass the preliminary review are sent for double-blind peer review: the authors’ identities are concealed from the reviewers, and the reviewers’ identities are concealed from the authors. At least two independent experts in the relevant field are engaged as reviewers. The review period is, as a rule, 4 to 8 weeks.

Editorial decision. Based on the reviews received, the editor-in-chief or the editorial board makes one of the following decisions: accept the article for publication as submitted; accept the article subject to revision in accordance with the reviewers’ comments; or reject the article. The author is notified of the decision, as a rule, within 10 working days of the completion of the review. Where revision is required, the author is given no more than 30 days to make the necessary changes.

Editorial preparation and publication. Accepted articles undergo literary and technical editing. The edited version is sent to the author for approval. The date of receipt, the date of approval following review, and the date of acceptance for publication are recorded and indicated in the published article in accordance with GOST R 7.0.7-2021.

Publication Charges and Editorial Services

“Burganov House. The Space of Culture” is an open-access journal (Diamond Open Access). Publication is free of charge: no fees are collected from authors for manuscript submission, peer review, acceptance, PDF hosting, DOI assignment or archiving.

In accordance with the journal’s editorial policy, every article is published in two complete language versions — Russian and English. Authors may either provide the complete set of materials themselves or request editorial services. Editorial services are optional and offered at the author’s request on a paid basis. For details please contact: dom.text@gmail.com.

The decision to accept a manuscript is based solely on the outcome of double-blind peer review and does not depend on whether the author requests editorial services.

Conflict of Interest

All authors are required to declare the presence or absence of any conflict of interest related to the publication. A conflict of interest arises when personal, financial, professional, or other circumstances may influence the results of the research, their interpretation, or publication. A conflict-of-interest statement must be included in the manuscript as a separate element before the list of references. Where no conflict of interest exists, authors must explicitly state: “The author(s) declare(s) no conflict of interest.” Concealment of a conflict of interest constitutes a violation of publication ethics.

Funding and Acknowledgements

If the research was carried out with financial support from a Russian or foreign fund, a government programme, a grant, or under a contractual arrangement, the author is required to disclose this in the manuscript. Funding information is provided in the “Funding” or “Acknowledgements” section, placed before the list of references. The name of the funding organisation, the programme or grant title, and its number (if applicable) must be indicated. Example: “This research was supported by the Russian Science Foundation, project No. 00-00-00000.” Where no external funding was received, this section may be omitted; however, any form of support must be disclosed.

Licensing Agreement

By submitting a manuscript, the author(s) confirm(s) that the article is original, has not been previously published in any publication, and is not under consideration by another journal or publisher simultaneously with its submission to the present journal.

The author(s) grant(s) the editorial board of the journal Burganov House. The Space of Culture a non-exclusive right to publish the article in print and electronic form, and to make its full text available in open access and in the academic databases in which the journal is indexed. The author(s) retain(s) copyright over the work. The editorial board is entitled to carry out technical and literary editing of the text without altering its scholarly content, and to arrange translation of the article’s metadata into other languages.

Submission of a manuscript is deemed to constitute the author’s (authors’) acceptance of these terms. Where necessary, the editorial board sends the author a licensing agreement for signature.

All materials are published on a manuscript basis.

Publication Ethics

The journal Burganov House. The Space of Culture adheres to the principles of publication ethics set out in the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). The editorial board does not tolerate plagiarism, data falsification, duplicate publication, or any other breaches of scholarly integrity. Authors, reviewers, and editors bear equal responsibility for upholding ethical standards.
